NEC has opened its heart to Mobbed-Online exclusively, unveiling its plans to boost R&D spending on next-generation networking (NGN) to slightly more than 130 billion yen this fiscal year, a 30% increase from fiscal 2006.
NEC has earmarked slightly more than 340 billion yen for R&D efforts in fiscal 2007, a 2% rise. Of this figure, NGN investment will be increased by 30 billion yen. The higher spending will be concentrated on development of communication infrastructure equipment, servers that manage communication data and related services.
The firm is also "considering mergers and acquisitions to expand its overseas operations," President Kaoru Yano told us, after a business meeting on Tuesday. Network configuration services abroad will be strengthened as well.
NEC aims to buoy NGN-related sales by 120% to 200 billion yen this fiscal year.
